The Sir William Tyree Scholarships for Engineering have been established to support high performing electrical & mechanical engineering students from regional and rural New South Wales. Students will receive financial support from the second year of study through to the final year of their degree at the University of Wollongong. Sir William was the founder of the Tyree Group of companies and a leading Australian industrialist, upon his passing in 2013 Sir William left an enduring legacy through his foundation and business interests to support engineering education and research for the future prosperity of Australia. In addition to financial assistance of $15,000 per year, scholarship holders will be provided with work experience within the Tyree Group of companies where they will benefit from seeing engineering theory placed into practice in the design & manufacture of electrical equipment including electrical transformers, switchgear and substations.

Application Criteria
Successful applicants must remain enrolled in an undergraduate degree at any onshore campus at the University of Wollongong for the duration of this scholarship.
Successful applicants must remain enrolled as a full-time student at the University of Wollongong for the duration of this scholarship.
Successful applicants must maintain a minimum Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of 75+
Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, New Zealand Citizen, Australian Permanent Resident or Australian Permanent Humanitarian Visa Holder.
Applicants are required to demonstrate community involvement via submission of a written statement.
Applicants must have originated from or reside in the Southern Highlands, South Coast or Illawarra Regions
Applicants must be enrolled in their second (2nd) year of a Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical) or (Mechanical) in 2026, with a view to complete honours. Double degree enrolments will also be eligible.
Successful applicants must maintain enrolment in a Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical) or (Mechanical) for the duration of the scholarship, as designated at the time of application and selection.
The scholarship duration is three or four years, depending on the length of the full-time, eligible degree program.
