The Sir William Tyree Scholarships for Engineering have been established to support high performing electrical & mechanical engineering students from regional and remote NSW/ACT as per the Department of Health ASGS remoteness areas definition (2016) with financial assistance for the duration of their study program at the University of Wollongong.
Sir William was the founder of the Tyree Group of companies and a leading Australian industrialist; upon his passing in 2013 Sir William left an enduring legacy through his foundation and business interests to support engineering education and research for the future prosperity of Australia.
In addition to financial assistance of$15,000 per year, scholarship holders will be provided with work experience within the Tyree Group of companies where they will benefit from seeing engineering theory placed into practice in the design & manufacture of electrical equipment including electrical transformers, switchgear and substations.

Application Criteria
Applicants must be enrolled as a full-time student at the University of Wollongong for the duration of this scholarship;
Applicants must be enrolling in their first (1st) year of a Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical) or Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) in 2021;
Applicants must be available for 10 weeks work experience at the end of each year;
Applicants must have originated from regional and remote NSW/ACT as per the Department of Health ASGS remoteness areas definition (2016);
Applicants must be an Australian Citizen or Australian Permanent Resident.
Applicants must maintain a weighted average mark of 75+
Successful applicants Fourth year honours project is to be developed by the student with endorsement from Tyree and the Honours Thesis Coordinator
Applicants are required to demonstrate community involvement via submission of a written statement
