First year Bachelor of Nursing students at UOW's Wollongong or Shoalhaven Campus are encouraged to apply for this scholarship, valued at $21,000.
If you are a first (1st) year Bachelor of Nursing student studying at the UOW Wollongong Campus or Shoalhaven Campus, you originate from or have strong demonstrated ties to the Illawarra region (ISLHD), and you have financial, social, and/or educational disadvantages, please apply.
The Wollongong Chapter No. 59 Order of the Eastern Star Opportunity Scholarship is funded by a group of like-minded friends who seek to give back to the community and enrich the lives of others. This scholarship is designed to support the next generation of front-line Nursing professionals.
Applicants are asked to complete a UOW scholarship application package including a brief cover letter, resume and written statement outlining why they have applied for the scholarship and how the scholarship will financially and educationally support them during their studies.

Application Criteria
Applicants must remain enrolled in an undergraduate degree at Wollongong or Shoalhaven campus at the University of Wollongong for the duration of this scholarship
Applicants must remain enrolled as a full-time student at the University of Wollongong for the duration of this scholarship
Successful applicants must maintain a minimum Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of 50
Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, New Zealand Citizen, Australian Permanent Resident or Australian Permanent Humanitarian Visa Holder
Applicants must demonstrate financial and/or educational challenges. UOW also takes into consideration the following forms of educational challenges and applicant attributes when awarding equity scholarships: carer responsibilities; English language difficulty; long-term medical condition/disability or ongoing effects of abuse; regional or remote disadvantage; sole parent responsibilities; refugee status and Indigenous Australians.
Applicants must be commencing in 2025 in a Bachelor of Nursing degree at the University of Wollongong, Wollongong or Shoalhaven Campus
Applicants must originate from or have strong demonstrated ties to the Illawarra region, by way of living in the region for a long period of time, attending High School in the Illawarra, or other ways as demonstrated by a written statement.
Applicants cannot hold another scholarship concurrently with this scholarship.
Successful recipients will be expected to attend at least one event with the donor, and provide written updates as required. Preference is for any in-person donor engagement to occur from second year or above.
