Transforming Futures Scholarships are awarded to students who have demonstrated need such as financial or social disadvantage. There are a range of criteria that are looked at in determining this need such as low income, family background, living in a rural or isolated region, having a permanent disability, being a recent migrant from a non-English speaking country, and Indigenous Australians.
The Dearden Family Transforming Futures Scholarship will be awarded in accordance with the existing selection framework of the Transforming Futures Scholarships - Future Students. Scholarships will be awarded in December 2022 to students commencing studies in Autumn 2023. The Dearden Family Transforming Futures Scholarship will be weighted towards a preference for supporting students studying a STEM related degree, from rural or regional Australia.

Application Criteria
Applicants must be intending to enrol full-time in a STEM degree at the University of Wollongong in 2023.
Applicants must be intending to enrol in first year of any undergraduate degree at the University of Wollongong.
Successful applicants must maintain enrolment in an undergraduate STEM degree at the University of Wollongong.
Applicants must be living in/originate from Rural or Regional Australia.
Applicants must be able to demonstrated financial need, as a result of living/orginating from a rural or regional area.
Applicants must demonstrate financial need. UOW also takes into consideration the following forms of educational disadvantage and applicant attributes when awarding equity scholarships: carer responsibilities; English language difficulty; long-term medical condition/disability or ongoing effects of abuse; regional or remote disadvantage; sole parent responsibilities; refugee status and Indigenous Australians.
The Dearden Family Transforming Futures Scholarship will be weighted towards a preference for supporting students studying a STEM related degree, from rural or regional Australia.
Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, New Zealand Citizen, Australian Permanent Resident or Australian Permanent Humanitarian Visa Holder.
Successful applicants must maintain a minimum Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of 50
