The donor is a Kuku-Yalanji man, a UOW Alumnus - Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) 2020 - and a previous Woolyungah Indigenous Centre (WIC) Mentor. They now live in Western Australia, currently splitting their time between Perth and Port Hedland as an electrical engineer at BHP.
The donor attributes their success to the support they received from WIC. They also understand the role scholarships play in supporting students to focus on and achieve their academic and career goals, and as such he has established the Burri Burri Scholarship. Burri Burri is the Dharawal word for whale. One of the most prevalent dreaming creatures along the East Coast of Australia. This scholarship represents the donor's connection and journey between UOW and his nation as a proud Kuku-Yalanji man.
This scholarship will support UOW Indigenous students enrolled full-time in any Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) undergraduate degree at the University of Wollongong.
Applicants are asked to complete a UOW scholarship application package and provide a one-page statement outlining how the scholarship will assist with their career ambitions.
In the event of exceptional applicants, the selection panel reserves the right to split the funding between multiple recipients.
